A second leak on unrealized projects in the TimeSplitters series has recently appeared online. If first an employee of the closed at the end of 2023 Free Radical Design showed gameplay of the unreleased remake of TimeSplitters 2, now we can take a look at the canceled TimeSplitters 4.
The prototype was revealed on a PlayStation 3 developer (dev kit). The build dates back to November 7, 2008, and in the video you can see arcade shootouts with bots. The medieval location during a thunderstorm turned out to be quite atmospheric, and the player’s weaponry easily recognizes the slightly crazy style of TimeSplitters.
Development of TimeSplitters 4 was halted in 2009, when Free Radical Design was bought by Crytek. After the studio was shut down due to the failed Haze, it was revived in 2021 to bring the TimeSplitters franchise back to life. In the end, the developers fell another victim to the Embracer Group’s restructuring.
It is possible that players can look forward to more information and even materials on the unreleased installments of TimeSplitters in the future. New details about TimeSplitters 2 remake were promised by its artist Rob Steptoe.
It’s fascinating to see gameplay footage of the canceled TimeSplitters 4, offering a glimpse into what could have been. The atmospheric medieval location and the trademark crazy style of TimeSplitters make it a captivating watch.
